Shelby, California, nestled at the foot of the San Bernadino mountain range, was once a widely populous town. Centered on a picturesque landscape, it became a bustling economy during the mid-1800's, this being due to the Gold Rush fever that had begun to spread throughout the country.
Ladies dressed from head to toe in finely made clothing and jewelry would frequent the shops and parade around, boasting in loud voices of their husband's wealth. The laughter of many children could be heard from every street, oblivious to their parents' greed.
By 1855, however, Shelby was a ghost town. Houses and buildings alike had been abandoned, ransacked, and some even burned to the ground. Its residents had fled, fearing the wrath of the gang of bandits headed by the notorious Billy Dooger. The Dooger Brothers' gang destroyed the town, robbed it of its wealth and beauty. The few poor souls they didn't kill were driven away.
For nine years the once rich locale remained deserted. It became a wasteland. What buildings remained fell into ruin, and it was rumored that the restless spirits of those who were killed wandered the town in homes of finding lost loved ones.
Travelers seeking a new place of residence began migrating to the ghost town in the summer of 1864. Rebuilding Shelby would take time, these people knew that, but they were more than willing to give the effort. A new economy was established, a mayor elected, and over time more and more people began to arrive. New Shelby, as the town became known, had been reborn.
Which made it a prime target for bandits.
After hearing news of the resettlement, Donnie, now head of the Dooger gang, led his group of outlaws back to where they once claimed their best prizes. They've remained under the radar for three years, but it's only a matter of time before the law catches up to them. The law enforcement has already managed to chase the intruding Bones Gang out of New Shelby.
Still more bandits are arriving, stomping all over Dooger territory. A bank heist occured in July of 1867, during which two women (Helene Ellwood and Josephine Chisholm) were taken hostage. These bandits, by means of the Sheriff and (independently) Donnie and his boys, were exterminated.
What lies in store for New Shelby and its people? Will they be driven away just like the town's previous occupents? Or will they bring the bad guys to justice and live in peace?
