Page history last edited by Jewels 1 yr ago

Full Name: Mattie Ford

Date of Birth and/or Age: June 9, 1840 - 26

Sexual Preference: Bisexual

Ethnic Background: Israeli and Native American mixed

Occupation: Bootlegger and wants to work at the saloon nearby as a bartender

Family:

Wilma Ford - mother ; deceased

Glenn Washington - father ; presumed deceased

Nicole Ford - sister ; missing/unknown

John Bishop - husband ; deceased

Current Residence: In a small ranch in town.

Appearance: Mattie is 5'6" tall, skinny and a bit boney. She has dark brown hair, and darker skin, though she can pass for caucasian if she really has to. Her hair is mostly curly, sometimes very curly if she doesn't do anything with it, which is usually the case. It hangs down to her shoulders, though it grows pretty quickly. Her eyes are deep brown, and she has some freckles. She's also got some scars, mostly on her hands and her arms, and some burn scars on her legs and down her back. Her skin is pretty worn and she's usually dirty. She wears bustle skirts, mostly white, though she has a black and a brown one. She wears peasant tops, but doesn't bother looking fancy, or tries to come across as having money of any kind. She almost always has on an apron, but she doesn't wear a bonnet unless she has to go into town. If she's bartending, she wears a corset, if only to raise the chances of getting money from the patrons. There's no petticoat, and she doesn't ever wear a coat because she doesn't have one. Most of the time her hair is pinned up in a bun, or hanging loose from her shoulders.

Personality: Mattie's a kind of no frills and no nonsense type, considering the people she was raised with, and the fact that no one had ever taught her how to be a lady, growing her up almost as if she'd been a boy, it's not really a surprise. She doesn't care much for people unless they're coming to by her alcohol, and she's not really big on chatting or getting to know her neighbors. She's a bit secretive, just like everything else about her. Even if she talks to people, she doesn't mince words, she doesn't talk about herself, and she doesn't know how to conduct herself in public all that well, which is why she works at the saloon where she can be as brass and bawdry as she'd like to be without anyone giving her grief about it.

That being said, she's not mean, usually, she's just not the happy sunshine and rainbows kind of girl. She knows the trials and the tribulations of people first hand, she knows that most people buy her moonshine so that they don't have to deal with their own problems, and that's just fine with her. Usually she doesn't mind crowds as long as she doesn't have to talk about herself. She's very self reliant and would rather do things by herself and doesn't think she needs any kind of man. She's very anti-marriage and anti-kids but that doesn't mean she's a prude, it just means that she's very secretive about the company she keeps. Of course the thing she fears the most is going to jail and being found out by the cops but so far, she's not had any real suspicions raised about her being the one who's selling moonshine. Of course all that is definitely subject to change.

Special Skills/Weapons Used: Very good at making alcohol, selling it and playing cards.

Weaknesses: Not good at obeying the law, being very sociable or nice, being a proper lady, and shooting.

Character History

Wilma Ford worked at a brothel and already had one daughter, a couple of years older then her younger sister, when she became pregnant by a man passing through town in 1840. The man was an outlaw, and the two never exchanged names. She never stopped working through her pregnancy, and when she gave birth to Mattie, she died a couple of hours later from sepsis. There were two tiny children, a toddler and a baby with no parents to look after them. The matron of the brothel took both of the girls to one of the local Yokut tribes since the matron had some ties to them, and they took the girls in, if only to use them as helping hands. The girls never stayed with one family, they roamed from family to family, but basically grew up as Yokut Indians, even though they never were treated fully like one of them. They learned the language, learned how to make clothes for themselves, feed and hunt and cook for themselves, really just like any proper lady was supposed to do, though no one really clued them in about how to be proper.

Eventually her sister was married off to one of the Yokut people, which didn't seem to bother Mattie too much, though she went to live with them for a time. It was her sister's husband that first taught her how to make alcohol, how to extract it and bottle it and give it out to neighboring people, and it was something that she always remembered. However, Mattie didn't like living there, the man had a frightful temper, and he gave her most of the scars on her arms and hands. When she was old enough, Mattie went out on her own and starting living on the land, and having to acclimate herself really to living like a white person and learning English, moving from ranch to ranch, trying to figure out what to do with herself.

Finally she found work at one of the old distillery's a couple of towns down with barely any English, she didn't really understand that he wanted to trade pay for sex, though he said he'd let her work there and show her how to work the distillery if she lifted up her skirt enough. She complied, because it was better then nothing, and she was a quick learner. Soon she was making her own booze secretly behind his back, getting drunk and going into town to play cards with some of the local boys. Somewhere along the bustle of gambling and trying not to get thrown into jail for being disorderly in public, she learned how to make moonshine the good old fashioned way. In order not to draw attention to herself, she let a man named John Bishop, whom she knew from playing cards marry her when she was 15 and promised him lots of children. She didn't exactly give him those.

Some people say that she got pregnant and made herself miscarry a couple of times, some say he was too old to get it up enough to give her children. Either way it didn't really matter. Out of the back of their ranch, she illegally started to make and bottle moonshine and sell it to men on the sly. Her husband never seemed to care, or maybe he was just dumb enough not to notice what she was doing. She didn't neglect the house, or him, though the two were far from loveless. It went on that way until she turned 20, when he died of the scarlet fever, leaving her a widow.

The next six years of her life, she's been living the high life so to speak, claiming herself a widow that can't do much more then run the ranch she's got. She still makes moonshine, though now she's added absinthe to her resume, and only a hot poker will make her tell you how she got to make that. Mostly she stays in her ranch, but goes into town if she needs to. She actually wants to bartend at the saloon, and hopes to find a real job there, only if to make sure the law stays off her back.
