Runs with wolves is a half-Native American, half-Caucasian teenager. Following her mother's death, she left her tribe and headed to New Shelby in search of her father. Along her journey, she learned the customs and language of the 'white man' and accepted the English name of Sarah, given to her by her friends/caretakers the Roberts family, which better prepared her for her arrival in the town. However, a father was not to be found. Instead, Runs with wolves met her brother, Charlie.
